MAISL Trust 2025 Cipriano Safety Award/Cipriano Award of Excellence

September 10, 2025 |

The Cipriano Award of Excellence was established in July 2012 in honor of the MAISL Trust Chairperson, Robert Cipriano. Most of you may not know Bob but this award is a small way to continue to honor his legacy. Bob was the Business Services Director and oversaw district Athletics with Dearborn Schools from July 2000 till 2012.
Bob was an advocate for students in all aspects of his professional roles, always keeping students as a priority when it came to district funding per the late Brian Whiston, Superintendent of Dearborn schools who worked with Bob.
The following is an excerpt from his Celebration of Life memorial: Bob was known for carefully considering the impact of budget choices on the students’ education. Bob loved athletics and enjoyed staying physically fit. He was an avid runner and competitor who participated in road races, marathons, and triathlons, in addition to bike races, softball games and basketball leagues. He was particularly passionate about youth sports.
Bob led life with enthusiasm and excellence no matter what the challenge was.
In the past the Trust recognized one member with this award and in true Bob form, we are increasing that to recognize all members that have met the measure of excellence during the 2023-2024 program year.
The award criteria includes evaluation of claim frequency, loss ratio, member attendance at meetings and safety efforts/implementations of controls. Consideration of safety efforts and implementation of controls is new this year as is the loss ratio being based off the 2023-2024 program year verses utilizing a 5-year average. Claims under $100 were removed from claim frequency as they were last year.
